Frequently asked questions
Common questions about booking, gorilla trekking, pricing and travel to Uganda. For anything else, contact us or message us on WhatsApp.
When is the best time to visit Uganda for a safari?
Uganda can be visited all year. June to September and December to February are drier, with easier trails and roads. March to May and October to November are wetter but greener and quieter, and April, May and November also carry discounted gorilla and chimpanzee permits.
How do I book a safari with Nkore Pearl Safaris?
Send us a quote request or a WhatsApp message with your dates, group size and interests. We reply with a proposed itinerary and price. When you approve it, we reserve permits and lodging and confirm everything in writing, along with how to pay. Bookings are open all year.
Where is Nkore Pearl Safaris based?
In Mbarara City, in Nyamitanga, western Uganda. Being in the south-west means Lake Mburo is about an hour away and the gorilla parks, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Bunyonyi are a half-day drive or less.
Do I need a permit for gorilla trekking?
Yes. Uganda Wildlife Authority issues gorilla permits, they are limited each day, and current rules require foreign visitors to book through a licensed Ugandan tour operator. We reserve your permit as part of your safari, so book well before your travel dates.
How much is a gorilla permit?
At the time of writing, foreign non-resident visitors pay $800 in peak months and $600 in April, May and November, with lower rates for residents and East African citizens. Uganda Wildlife Authority reviews prices, so we confirm the exact figure in your quote.
Is there a minimum age for gorilla trekking?
Yes. Trekkers must be at least 15 years old. Younger children can join village walks, birding and lake stays while others trek.
Do you offer special rates for Ugandans and East African residents?
Yes. Resident and East African citizen rates apply to park fees and some permits, and our local tourists page explains how they work. Carry a valid national ID, passport or residence permit, because park gates check it.
Can I pay in Ugandan shillings?
Yes. You can pay in a foreign currency or in Ugandan shillings, and we confirm the final amount in your written quote so there are no surprises.
Do I need a visa and vaccinations to visit Uganda?
Most visitors need a visa, applied for online through Uganda's official e-visa system. A yellow fever certificate is commonly asked for, and malaria prevention is usually advised. Check official sources before you travel.
Can you collect us from Entebbe airport or Kampala?
Yes. We arrange transfers from Entebbe International Airport or Kampala to Mbarara and onward to your safari. Many guests spend the first night near the airport and start driving the next morning. Transfer prices depend on distance and vehicle and appear in your quote.
Can you tailor a safari to my dates and budget?
That is most of what we do. Our itineraries are starting points, and we change routes, days and lodges to fit your interests, fitness and budget.
What should I pack for a Uganda safari?
Neutral clothing in layers, a rain jacket, sturdy closed shoes, sun protection, insect repellent and binoculars. For gorilla and chimp treks add proper hiking boots, gloves and gaiters or long socks.
